The title of my blog…?
March 27th, 2006
I’ve stolen the title of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s novella about a woman’s struggle for sanity.

I found via Smoke and Mirrors, and clicked you in his blogroll, hoping against hope that your blog title would have something to do with Gilman’s story. You are the only person i know outside of my Women’s Lit class to know it!
I’ll be perusing the blog over the next few days. I love finding a new (to me) blog with lots of archives.

Interestingly, I worked for many years for The Feminist Press at CUNY, whose big claim to fame is that they were the first press to reprint Gilman’s novella. Of course, now there are tons of versions of it in print, but the FP one remains a classic.

I’m here from Smoke & Mirrors too, and I just KNEW that your title had to be from her novella. That story just grabbed me the first time I read it. It’s a wonderful read.

Deb,
I just read a wonderful review in the Wall Street Journal about your website.
I am wondering if you went to Providence College-if you did, we worked together in the library. My mom was diagnosed with a progressive form of dementia 4 years ago-she lost all her ability to speak and now its merged into Alzheimer’s. She is 72 years old. I live in CT-about 70 miles but I’ve been going to her every week. I hope to hear from you. -Lynn 3/31/08

I,too, read about your site in today’s WSJ. Ilost my 87 year old mother indirectly to dementia in Oct.06 after being her primary caregiver for five years. I was blessed in that I was retired for the last year and a half of her life. Our time together - including the time spent in the ER and the hospital- was such an education for me. As my friends begin a similar journey with their own mothers, I can empathize with them, but, more important, I can help them navigate the obstacle course that comes with this type of illness.
